I have discovered something more important to me than happiness: self-respect. Even on a bad day, a day when I am far from being my own biggest fan, my integrity can remain intact. That is the ultimate measure of myself, at the end of a day, and ultimately at the end of my life. It's not about what happens to me; it is always about how I respond.
So Mike Pence walks out of the 49er’s/Colts game to protest the protesters. Interesting to note that Trump had to get the word out immediately that he had “instructed” Pence to do that. Whew, that was close. Someone else might have gotten some attention.
The Pencer tweets that “now, more than ever, we should rally around our flag and everything that unites us…” Okay, quick question: what if one of the things that unites us is our freedom of speech and specifically our freedom to peacefully protest injustices like the disproportionate police violence on people of color? We should rally around that, if that unites us, right, Penceman?
LET’S BE CLEAR: The protest is about racism. We need to understand that our Vice President (and the man who “instructs him”) is objecting to respectful, peaceful protest of institutional racism. And our flag represents our right to do just that.
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
